"There" es un adverbio de lugar que se acompaña del verbo to be en su forma singular o plural dependiendo del sustantivo parte del sujeto. Dicho verbo to be, en su forma positiva puede ser:
"is" (en cuyo caso sea singular) o "are" (en el caso de que sea plural)
Oraciones afirmativas con "there is":
1. There is a pencil in my case.
2. There is an apple in the fridge.
3. There is a book.
4. There is a car in the garage.
5. There is an elephant in the zoo.
Así mismo, ambas formas del verbo (tanto "is" como "are", singular y plural respectivamente) se acompañan del "not" en cuyo caso el contexto sea negativo. La contracción para cada forma es la siguiente: "is not: isn't" y para la versión plural: "are not: aren't"

1. There isn’t my notebook.
2. There isn’t your bag.
3. There isn’t an elephant
4. There isn’t a pencil in my case.
